Sire Stakes have ruined the Sport of Harness Racing

Now ....the top horses are skipping Iconic races

like the Little Brown Jug to cash in $$ in weak

Sire Stakes races....

Afraid to go 2 heats cause they might bruise their puppy...

in my opinion if a horse skips the Jug...it is weak..

but I guess $$ talk...

soon they will be skipping the Metro and The NA Cup

and go right into a 1 Heat Sire Stakes ...

where they go off 1-9 and beat B and C horses...

and pad the bankroll x 3

e.g.  Beau Jungles

Kentucky has made it worse with duel eligibility. Over time all the top mares will be located in KY and the stallions in states with strong sire stakes programs. Then the babies will be able to race in two sire stakes programs. Who needs the grand circuit. The top horses can race in two sire stakes programs, set a mark at the Red Mile, then off to a breeding farm never to be seen again.

I agree that certain very lucrative sire stakes programs/races, dual eligibility, etc., can lure horses from major stakes-----and while the byproduct is not good, unfortunately, it all comes down to economics. Case by case or generic, owners are going to manage their capital at risk to maximize their ROI. No different than the connections of a top 3yo weighing the options of racing as a 4yo vs. a stallion deal.

But it is building a house of cards. Eventually the taxpayers in some of these states are going to revote against the government handouts when their own taxes keep going up. The industry cannot support itself.

The goal when purchasing yearling is to make as much profit as possible on your investment. Now a days you have to be not only a good trainer, but business manager as well. The owners and trainers are looking out for their own portfolio and not the entertainment value of the fans imo.

Little appeal to racing heats on a rinky dink half mile where you have no shot if you draw outside or a big type horse

A horse is managed to make the highest ROI. The people criticizing those decisions never owned a horse where a decision like that had to be made.

Laag, Obviously we don't see eye to eye but make no mistake , Delaware is NOT A RINKY DINK half.
Is and has been for pretty much forever the consensus choice of half mile tracks.

He wasn't talking about the quality of the track, he was talking about the size. All half mile tracks are rinky dink. It you were a horseman, you would know that.

Well Mike, once again I beg to differ, He WAS talking about that track obviously. What other half-mile races multiple heats?

Absolutely. Maybe there's little appeal to racing heats on half mile tracks-----and yes, here, very little to no shot if you draw outside-----and as such, there is far less to perhaps no appeal on this specific half mile track as compared to others.

The Confederation Cup used to run heats, but that's neither here nor there.

It's this specific track-----the configuration of the track, the radius of the turns, etc.
