track announcer said RECALL and they kept on driving

lights on the car probably did or didn't come on so the drivers didn't know either

declared a no contest

What will they do with the $65,000 purse?
It is the last night of the meet.

they will probably race next week during some afternoon when no one can watch or bet on it

today was the last card of the season

check the USTA charts and suddenly it will show up

My guess they will equally divide the money between starters.

that is certainly an option but from what I have seen at other venues on big days they usually race a day or two later

I wouldn't be happy if they decided to do that and I owned #7 Cool Mr Cool-he has been the best of that division all year

I watched the replay this morning.
What a mess.
Looked like the 8 and 9 interfered with eack other going to the gate.
Starter calls a recall and you can hear announcer call recall.
Starter closes the gate and speeds off as normal.
Two horses keep going as normal race.
Some start to pull up then rethink and take off to catch up.
Announcer calls the race as if everything is ok.
Winner goes back to winners circle.
Long delay then No Contest.
IMHO
It was the starters fault for closing the wings and speeding off

A similar thing happened decades ago at The Meadows. Half the horses pulled up and half kept racing.
The horses were sent back to the paddock. The judges called up Del Miller(owner of the track) and asked what to do. Del says "Send us back out to start over". Del had pulled his horse up and was fresh and ready to go.

I'm told the started never called a recall.  The announcer and production team called a recall twice during the card and the other race went official.  The horse that was the class of the division won.  This is a black eye on the sport and I am sure there will be appeals and lawsuits.  They should declare Cool Mr Cool the state division Champion.  He deserves at least that much.
