Running Aces smashes handle record on Sunday
Posted on August 3, 2026 by Darin Gagne, for Running Aces Casino, Hotel and Racetrack

Columbus, MN – Running Aces had a record setting night on Sunday (Aug. 2) as bettors wagered a total of $654,779 on the 12-race program at the Minnesota five-eighths mile oval. The previous handle record at Running Aces was $414,945 set back in 2022.

It was a solid 12-program that featured the $50,000 Dan Patch final as well as a mandatory payout for the track’s 20-cent Pick-5 Jackpot wager, which had gone unclaimed through the first 31 nights of the season and offered a carryover of $49,845 coming into the Sunday program.
Players enthusiastically responded to the opportunity for added value and pumped over $215,000 in new money into the Pick-5 wager.

The sequence for the Jackpot force-out bet began with the Dan Patch race that went to heavy favorite Cash Money Twenty and driver Casey Leonard who paid $2.80. Wisco Wild Card and Nick Roland provided some fireworks at 25-1 in leg two (paying $52.80) and the sequence then saw back-to-back second choice winners in Fox Valley Ozzy (Gary Rath, $7.60) and It’s Pointless (Dean Magee, $5.40) before race 12 favorite Marc In The Box (Brady Jenson, $4.60) delivered the goods to close out the night.

The 20-cent payout for winning Pick-5 tickets was $541.32.

roughly 33% of the record handle is due to the fact they had a mandatory payout --in which CAW action is unusually heavy

Assiniboia Downs last night handled $4.9 mil.....-a record....--due to a mandatory payout in which $2.5 mil of fresh CAW money was wagered on another mandatory payout

you can read these data points any way you like-the reality is the record handles were because fresh CAW money flooded the pools-basically screwing over all the non CAW handle

not everyone is an idiot believing the game is thriving because they look at skewed numpers produced by CAW handle--only a few actually think that it is

Yes. 265k of the 654k total handle came from the p5 carryover.
A wager they offer once a year and is heavily bet in the very last wagerijg cycle (caw)
These tracks use the smoke and mirrors strategy whenever possible, they rarely have legitimately good news to report.
1 wager per year is not sustainable or reliable measure of "thriving"

Yes, you love those government handouts. I hope you are saving that money when the taxpayers take it away.
