I have been to all the Maine fairs too! Fryeburg is probably the most popular. Even though it closes out the Fair season as they wind up racing at Cumberland through December. This state had many tracks at one time. Some great horseman have came from here. But the industry is in tough shape here. We go to support the sport here. But it's like spitting into a hurricane.

Fryeburg is classic Fall foliage time.. I loved Union and Presque Isle ( great northen fair)  Both shut down.

Big a race 3   p5  3/4/246/46/46

It's a really long day from sun-up to sundown. I think they have an organized breakfast for fans looking to watch the workouts. A  friend told me you might pick up a 'tidbit or two" trying to eavesdrop on a trainer or owner. LOL! He overheard Nick Zito years back chatting about a horse getting ready for his first race the last week at the Spa. He paid double digits and he caught it good.

Their organized breakfast consisted of alcohol. I'm not much of a T-bred fan, more harness, but since I was invited and had never been there it was a no brainer to go. I actually ran into Donna Brothers in the grandstand one day and got a picture taken with her, she was very nice, probably because I was polite.

That's a interesting breakfast! LOL! I'm glad you did go to have the experience. I got two autographs that I always wanted. From Angel Cordero Jr. and Gary Stevens. Both were so nice. I told Cordero I remember booing him at Aqueduct when I was much younger. He laughed. I did tell him I thought he was one of the best ever. He shook my hand and thanked me for that. I think he's a jockey's agent now.

You can always hit the harness track down the street. Warning though it is a major letdown

The jockeys walk thru the grandstand after weighing in to get to the jockey's room and a few signed autographs. I happened to be there getting a large soft pretzel and 20-ounce bottle of soda at the refreshment stand for $10 which is about what you'd expect to pay.

Thanks JT! I wanted to get down to the Big A for closing day, but I can't do it. Spent a lot of great times there. A lot of great history there. With two trips to Saratoga planned, i'm saving the bankroll for then.
