I had a big day at Big A yesterday. Looking at todays card, i expecct the same

Race 1  tossing the big chalk  #2. Coming off a vet scratch

#6 Ran a hole in the wind at CD last. Should get brave again here as projected to be lone speed
#3  Horror trip last and still managed second

I'm glad you had a big day at the Big A yesterday. Hit them hard again today. While i'm not getting rich playing the ponies, my starting bankroll of $5000 on Jan. 1st is up to $9889 going into today's action. I'm trying to start with a healthy bankroll for Saratoga's meet. We have plans to make two 3 day mid week trips there this racing season. Weekends are way to crowded so we like the weekday cards.

Thanks! i'm really picking my spots. Saratoga is fun. We love it. Food is crazy expensive. But it's about a 4 1/2 hour ride from Maine through some pretty country. Except around Albany. LOL!

Went there last August for the first time with a friend. He drove, it was a 5 hour drive from the PA/DE state line. Got there Tuesday and left after the races on Saturday. My friend was a VIP with NYRA and got a suite at Homewood Suites as a comp along with free admission passes. Couldn't believe admission was $10. Even on Wednesday there were at least 20,000 or more people but it's huge inside so you were able to move around with no problem.

So you are about the same distance we are from there. We have a friend who lives about 10 miles from the track who puts us up when we come visit. He's a $2 bettor but I think he loves "people watching" the crowd there.  I love talking with some of the "handicappers" on who they like. LOL!

Our hotel was about 1.5 miles from the track, my friend and a friend of his went there around 8:00 AM for workouts and stayed all day, I couldn't handle that. Our hotel had a shuttle which I took, it's about 1.5 miles away and you drive right past the harness track on the way.

I was never there. But I heard it was in a nice area. I miss heading to Suffok Downs and Rockingham Park. We have some fun fairs in Maine, but it's all harness racing. I think throughbred racing is finished in New England.

It's a really long day from sun-up to sundown. I think they have an organized breakfast for fans looking to watch the workouts. A  friend told me you might pick up a 'tidbit or two" trying to eavesdrop on a trainer or owner. LOL! He overheard Nick Zito years back chatting about a horse getting ready for his first race the last week at the Spa. He paid double digits and he caught it good.

I have been to all the Maine fairs too! Fryeburg is probably the most popular. Even though it closes out the Fair season as they wind up racing at Cumberland through December. This state had many tracks at one time. Some great horseman have came from here. But the industry is in tough shape here. We go to support the sport here. But it's like spitting into a hurricane.
