Watching the race live, even though he lost ground on the break, there was a 3 or 4 second period during the break where he was galloping and not losing much ground. It's considered an extended break and according to USTA rules, a horse can be DQ'd and placed last for an extended break which he certainly had. Tetrick did everything right but in the judge's discretion the horse should have lost more ground on the break than it did.
