Ask Ron Turcotte on Secretariat!  He said looking back once was 1 too many times (but had to do it)!

This dude looked back 3 times within less than 10 seconds being a half dozen in front.  The lead was insurmountable.

My trotter that I purchased out of the classified adds in NZ in 1978 was a 2yo Colt by Great Evander who was the top NZ stallion for years. He was a pacer who won as a 2yo, went to stud and left 90 percent trotters. I noticed all the top Great Evander's has the stallion Light Brigade in the mother's pedigree.  Petite Evander raced here and did great as well as 2 or 3 countries in Europe.

Light Brigade was one of the foundation trotting sires in New Zealand harness racing. He was imported from the United States and became enormously influential in the 1940s–1960s, especially through his daughters and grand-progeny. His bloodlines appear repeatedly in many of the great New Zealand trotters.

Light Brigade was a son of the famous American sire Volomite, and he helped inject more speed into New Zealand trotting bloodlines at a time when stamina and toughness were highly valued. His influence became especially important through broodmare lines rather than just direct sons.

My horse was inbred as his mother's Father was by Junior Royal by Fallacy by Light Brigade (Junior Royal was a pacer who was famous for dead heating with Cardigan Bay, the first millionaire standardbred. And his Mother's mother was also by Fallacy making half brother and half sister mating (Yikes)

I knew a well known trainer over there who also believed if you put a pacing bred stallion to a trotting mare, you would get more stamina and bred quite a few.

Anyway, My horse won 24 races there and was NZ trotter of the year two years in a row and he won most every feature they have over there and in one race he won over 2600 meters (1 mile 5/8) breaking the trotter's time by 4 full seconds and going faster than any pacer had gone. I believe he is the only trotter there to ever go faster than any pacer ever.

He was nothing to look at, was battle scarred from getting caught in fences before i got him and has 3 suspect legs including missing over a year with a broken splint bone (removed). I would have loved to have kept him a stud but he was not sound and the vet said just geld him which we did.

Funny story, when he came out to the farm to geld him, he gave him the anesthetic and he stood there and would not go down, He gave him a bit more, and nothing, then more and he finally went down. Before he could finish the horse woke up.

The vet said, This fucker must have a set of lungs and a heart in him, I have never had to give a horse that much ever and then for him to wake up.  He broke stride a lot and it took 10 starts for him to win a race He had a hitch in behind and would sometimes trot rough. When he went the world record he threw a hind shoe and was trotting rough coming around the home turn

Here is a race from 42 years ago, I am getting old, just turned 65 now but what a first horse to own.

We took care of that guy, he was skin and bone when he came from the North Island to the South, he had hooves that had not been trimmed in months and had curbed hocks, bone splints (bone splints were famous form the Stallion Fallacy and he had that double strain which was the incest part.  I know when i got him he would be a project but we fixed him up and he did not race until a late 5yo but boy was it worth the wait.

He only got his maiden win in his 1st ever behind the gate in start 10. The secretary said he would not make the field and I said, we he just beat FFA pacers over a mile and a half from behind the gate in a workout. I said call up your friend at my home track and he will verify it. He got his start and won

Bottom line is I am a proponent of mixed gait breeding. Look at Googoo Gaagaa and his son Captain Corey

Just hold your beer! This is AMAC who has destroyed so many good horses. The man cannot drive cannot train but can burn millions of dollars. The clown show continues. Nice horse - just a matter of time before horse becomes Buggy material.

While he can be insufferable at times, lets be fair and give him some credit. Going forward, he would be wise to get Scotty or one of the top guys to do the driving.

They tried that last year, Tetrick drove her 4 or 5 times. Didn’t go so well

I’d wager a trotting filly with $300k made in 14 lifetime starts would be a broodmare before a buggy horse but I could be wrong

On one of his videos AMAC said he wanted to give her a week off and send her to Megan and Scotty for leg 2 of NJSS.

He knows he's not the greatest driver and mentions that when driving against the best like Dex, McCarthy bros etc etc

Great first horse experience! My first horse fell in his first start. No injuries though ngc3

I got really lucky with him but I studied breeding and actually purchased a couple of yearlings.  There was one colt at the sale I looked at, he had a right knee the size of a football. Vet certificate on wall of his stall at sale saying the horse was kneeing his door on his stall and that they had drained the knee and kept training it and that no structural damage. His mother won the Oaks over there and he was by the top sire. I got him for $15,000 and the owner of the leading stud was beside me starting the bidding, I said to him, I'm fucked if you want this horse and he said, you really want him, I said yeah so he stopped bidding.

I sold him after a qualifier to Australia for $55,000 to 2 Italian Australian pot dealers, LOL.  The funny thing is we qualified him the day before because in NZ if you run in a qualifier your horse is classified as "Used" not new like a car, LOL and there are no taxes.

We had to geld him which pissed me off but he would go out in his yard, squealing at mares in their paddocks and wore a trench down the side of his yard going backwards and forwards. Wouldn't even clean up his food most of the time. They told me they would have paid a little more had he remained a stud because of his impeccable breeding. He went on and won a West Australian Derby and around 100 grand.

That same owner of Nevele R Stud asked me to breed some mares to his stallions that he imported from here.  He even provided me a list of broodmares of his I could have to breed to his studs.  I remember being pissed off because I wanted 3 colts and got 3 fillies. The lady at the stud called ma and said You are a DAD, you have another filly, I said, thanks, you can shove it back up where it came from.

The other horse I will mention was this guy had a pacer name Rolls Hanover and he was a terrible trainer who had trained no winners. I looked up the stud book and there were SERIOUSLY no winners in 4 generations. He was by Vance Hanover which i think was unraced here, a son of Albatross and the Vance Hanover's were winning everything over there. I asked a trainer I knew to go and offer 10,000 for him after he won an impressive qualifier and he said, "Hell no i don't want to insult the guy". So I went and offered him 10 grand and he almost chained me to the horse as he needed money bad.

We won his first 4 lifeime starts including his 1st start where he was on a 5/8th mile track over a mile and a quarter and he was three wide the last lap pacing roughly when accelerating but he rolled the last Quarter winning by 6.  My cousin trained him and I remember my friend coming up to me saying the horse needed wedges under his from feet as many Albatross and son's progeny needed that to correct them.  He won like $120,000 and ended up dying of cancer.
