Batavia, NY — Brett Beckwith, currently the third winningest driver in North America for 2026, substantially added to his victory total on Thursday (Feb. 5) at Batavia Downs after winning five races on the program. Those wins included a sweep of the Batavia Downs Winter Pacing Series finals, as well as a natural hat trick in races seven, eight and nine.

The top final went for $14,000, and Beckwith scored with Timeto Communicate after getting a perfect trip

The Beckwith’s lost Ikon Vang Dk yesterday.  Let’s see how the new connections do.. this should be an indicator.

An indicator of what? Podres will do fine with the horse.

He made $1938.25 which is 5% of his purse earnings, hardly a fortune, but not bad for 6 hours work.

I'm guessing he made $400-$500 in tips....

No shot!  You are clueless how things work anymore.  You’re giving a tip to a guy who just made $2k+ in a night?

You must be clueless. Many owners give drivers tips when they win. Some give them a win ticket before the race. And I know more than one driver that requests $100 bill to drive your horse win or lose . If you think all the top drivers make is the purses earned you're very naive or dont know the business.....

Was fortunate to have him drive one for me, and he won. Handed him $100. He wouldn't take it. He said, "Give it to the groom. They are the ones who work hard on this house to make my job easy."   That's a class act.

In many races he's listed in several horses so accepting tips may have an influence on who he chooses to drive and if he doesn't choose your horse after you tipped him you may get pissed off  and call him ungrateful.m What's a $100 tip when you're making between $300,000;and $400,000 anyway, chump change .

Trust me. I've had other big-name drivers win for me. Some make more than him. They can't wait to take the tip money.

Almost all pick the horse that has the best chance to win. 5% of the win purse at these tracks, where they drive, really adds up. Plus, they like udr and wins total look good. They all have egos.

I now know that there is a very minute number of people in harness racing who really care about their horses once they are not able to race/breed anymore. Those who don't carfe deserve their place in hell.
