Monticello Website
« on: January 05, 2026, 08:08:09 PM »
Since it's a new year, just wondering if the management at Monti may get motivated enough to remove Catskill Steve's OCTOBER 23,2024 picks from their website before the end of this year!!! I realize few if any people even know they have a website - but if someone does stumble upon it - it's really not a good look.  Can't be that hard to just remove the page....yes - I know I'm being picky....... ngc3

They don’t even have an outrider there.

Does Yonkers have one? Is there a rule that the track has to have one?

Everything at Monticello is substandard, why would the website be any different?

They may be racing on a shoestring budget, but at least they don't bounce purse checks.

The picture they have on the website is one of the best I’ve seen.
Action and full of color.

That casino will be shut by end of 2026 and there goes Monti racing.

Monticello Raceway is one of the most successful harness tracks in America for betting. On Monday, with 11 races and a total purse distribution of around $50,000 for the day, they did around $600,000 in handle! How many other tracks can produce a handle 12 times the purses being offered?

The bigger question is how do the horsenmen allow the track to have such a huge handle to purse % and then they race for peanuts?

The majority of the handle comes from ADW's and off-track locations. On average their fee is in the 4% range, so 4% of a $600,000 handle is only $24,000, and that money has to go toward expenses, so there's not much left over for the purse account.

Each race has a 15-25% takeout. Where does that money go?

Some goes to the track which they use for expenses and some goes to the state.

I was there last year a few times. The same 20 people sit in the simulcast room hanging out. On the track apron, maybe another 10-15 folks watching the races. A person selling great hotdogs. It's amazing how they continue racing there.
