With the news about the impending sale and future of Northfield, I gotta wonder.....how many tracks would make a profit if casinos are 'de-coupled" from the tracks? I know from going to Monticello often, that's it's impossible for the two dozen bettors to keep it viable. Even with the betting off track, how much profit can they actually make? I know from one of the trainers there that the casino despises being in the racing business, and would love to dissolve their agreement. And now the news that Sullivan County is mulling a 585 million rescue plan for Resorts World Catskills by issuing bonds to purchase "non-gaming assets" of the casino. How long can the "Mighty M" make it?

So very sad. I grew up with Harness racing and seeing it's demise is heartbreaking. When I owned horses at the now defunct Pompano Park, my partners and I lost a ton of money. I know of the purses and the corruption I hear every day by "Plopsters" who know a lot more than I do. Then I look at a guy like Jeff Gural. He's got 3 tracks. I can't understand how Tioga and Vernon stay open. And every year I read/hear those tracks are "done". Yet every year they race. I just don't understand how they survive businesswise.
