Breeding Counts a LOT; top racemares
« on: September 21, 2025, 09:12:27 AM »
Breeding certainly counts!!
Just a few of the great race mares and broodmares who sired some of the top horses who WON the top races

Sylvia Hanover - Shyaway (dam of Western Hanover)
Antognoni S - Bouncing Bax (winner of over $400,000)
R Dutchess (DQ) - The Ice Duchess (1:51.1, $775,000)
Loua Dipa - Looks Good in a Romper (1:52.3H, $300,000+)
Emoticon Legacy - Emoticon Hanover (1:50.2, $1.8mm)
Apex- Mission Brief (1:50.2, $1.6mm; many still feel top female trotter EVER)

AND even though it was not a "feature race" on the card: Calico Jack Hanover - Charisma Hanover (1:49, $800,000)

So you can talk about the "gas" all you want, but you better be filling the tank of a Mercedes and not a Yugo.

Actually the mother of Western Fame, but still a great racehorse himself, bloodlines are the key for sure.

On occasion a top mare produces a good/great horse. More often than not the opposite happens.

you need to distinguish hat you classify as a top mare
a mare that was great/good on the track or one that has deep pedigree
if they are both than you have it all

On the flip side of the coin the outstanding 2yr. old Beau Jangles' dam make a little over 36K lifetime and his second dam make a little over 8K -- you have to go back to his third dam to find the outstanding race mare Bunny Lake who made over 3 million dollars -- yet out of 13 foals she was unable to produce a million dollar winner.

the first dam of beau jangles is a full sister to major hill who made $700k
bunny lake had a $800k winner and a $700k winner and a few average horses
one of her daughters bodacious hanover ( dragon again) is the dam of captain luke
