I am curious to why he believes he is getting a casino as early as 2027

that doesn't seem realistic from a guy who thought he was getting a casino 10 years ago

Can't believe the haters haven't posed this story?

There are lots of tracks now with good purses.  Just skip the Meadowlands.

Gural is a great ambassador for harness racing. What he did after the Tioga barn fire was heroic!  tmbz1

Back when Yonkers was thriving (yes, it was once) they stood idly by while the meadowlands was being built. They thought they were the best and would remain so. Wrong, Yonkers nearly went under. Then when Yonkers were getting the slots the Meadowlands sat on their butts with the same old and Yonkers ruled. The new Meadowlands came back and we know what Yonkers is now, great purses with a pittance of a handle.
So Gural is looking ahead to the casinos coming to NYC and knows a flip is about to begin again.
The casinos rule, harness racing just sucks along.  When the Jersey politicians see the long string of vehicles heading out of jersey to The NYC casinos they will be quick to get a casino on their side of the river.

this has been a popular take for years now--and NJ hasn't batted an eyelash as of yet

I say maybe in the 2030-2035 time frame--Trenton doesn't move that quickly on anything

There is a level of arrogance in this idea. What if other tracks do the same thing? This will just fragment the sport even more.

Pay to play, and it benefits the gamblers, owners, horsemen, I like it!  tmbz1...until those stud / breeding fees soar to compensate!

Shit runs down hill from atop the BigMountain! ;D

appropriate to use those three words--because that's why there are NO casinos outside of AC in NJ so far

1978=47 years and going strong

The publicly traded that own their pieces of AC have an excellent lobby.

If that ever failed they bring in their partners, the NYC, NJ and Philadelphia Families, which also run casinos too just none visible from the street and fancy like a Bally's!   ;D

If anyone wonders where the money is in harness racing just compare the visual quality of a racetrack and that of the breeding farms..

If Gural didn't have his "Gural rules" and allowed anyone with an active NJ license to race at his track, the entry box would be overflowing, he would have 10-horse fields in every race, and he'd have a huge handle every night.  Just my two cents.

You can't.

They're range up there with magnificent.

People there universally, very mellow too.

I'm sure they consider diversifying, if they already haven't and cater to the wealthy for their hobby's, sports and attendance driven activities outside racing.

Different worlds, and myself, the track has lost its luster for me, and casinos I'm NI.

Those that will still have have me too!  ;D

The only way to get a casino at the Meadowlands is by a voter referendum. I am sure he has done his own polling and that’s why he thinks he can get one this time.
