Like a lot of great coaches in sports, a big part of his legacy was the success of his pupils.
Clearly an all timer. RIP

All very worthy and very well deserved comments. Thank you. IMHO, the word "legend" is very often overused. Not in this case. D. Wayne Lukas is truly the definition of the word "legend". He was the icon before there was one. He was the rock star in the sport and industry. One of the amazing things that I witnessed, which was rarely mentioned, was that when he won a big race, the first people to congratulate him.....were his competitors! To see people-----like Ken McPeek, Kiaran McLaughlin (back when he was still training), Todd Pletcher, Bob Baffert, rush over to congratulate him after a big win, and they had horses in the race!-----was the pinnacle of the one word that will forever be associated with DWL, from his peers, and that is, respect. Another incredible thing which was also often overlooked is that he was the greatest ambassador for this sport.

Very well said.
