"Josiah"
« on: June 25, 2025, 06:43:41 PM »
Josiah (The Amish Flask) Miller
Like Cher and Madonna this teenage "P" driver Phenom will only need one name!
Better start betting him now!
He is the next Brett Beckwith!
The bandwagon is full, but there is still room on the road cart.
He is plying his trade at Running Aces in MN.
There he can watch and learn from The Enduring Legend Jerry Longo.
Also the MN. Golden Gopherettes are coming in off the lakes with their sandals off and their bikini tops in their hands to teach this young Amish boy the ways of the English.
Remember you first read it here.

Oh Ya You say!
How can a young man catch driving in MN. amount to anything in the future?
I can think of one that did.
Trivia ?
For a short time in the mid eighties Canterbury Downs in MN. had a harness horse meet.
Most every morning this future HOF driver, Hambletonian winner, LBJ winner, Adios winner, Cane Pace winner, and winner of several Breeders Crowns would walk through most every stable including Tony Morgan's and say
"Hi my name is ??? ?????? ,and I am a  catch driver, and I would like to drive your horses".
Any Guesses?

Purely a guess: Ron Pierce. Don't mind that Running Aces. They have nice crowds.
Kind of like Ocean Downs in that respect.

I know Pierce won a driving title there in the 80's so I agree with Bitter Truth.

William R. "Billy" Houghton  :)

There are 44 active driver and or trainers in the US with the last name Miller, and if he could be in the top 3 of those 44 would be amazing, go get em' kid and make the sky your limit.  tmbz1

Ledford not in HOF plus didn't win most of those races. Houghton was WAY before that time
plus he wasn't a catch driver, so our pick still stands as best so far. tmbz1

Houghton was 63 when he died in '86 so wasn't a hungry nobody in the 80's. tmbz1

Shhhhh please.

He died at 62 too, not 63, from an injury he sustained at that God forsaken Yonkers, God bless his heart!

It's a really good question.

John Campbell would also be a possible possibility, Billy H might dq you're right BT.  Your Ron Pierce pick was very good too.

Loosh was already well established so he would not have been running around looking for catch drives in the mid 80's but he did win the Dan Patch at Canterbury in the mid-80's with Forest Skipper, during his great run.  He also is in the HOF.

BUT, I agree with several other posters that this is Ron Pierce.
