Unfortunately with 3 eliminations only the top 3 finishers are guaranteed to advance along with a randomly drawn 4th place finisher which makes it more difficult for longshots who need to trip out to have a chance.

whether its 3 divisions or 2, nobody will be all out and try to win-the idea is to qualify for the Final

they should be non betting races

4 divisions would be ideal where only the top 2 qualify--make them 5 horse fields

also--since posts #1 and #2 are considered poor--do the elim winners get to choose the posts?

It would be idea if you had (3) ten horse fields, then you need to be aggressive. I still think they will be trying to win with only the top 3 finishers advancing. I'm almost sure the winners get to choose their posts and usually take anywhere from pp3 to pp6. I still think you want to win because if you're too conservative you may end up watching the race next week.

or finish 2nd  or 3rd then draw the 10 hole in the final

I believe last year they "assigned" winners of elims from posts #2 through #6

so you could win and get stuck with a horrible #2 spot if that is the case

winners should get 4-5-6 and choose-not be assigned

According to the race conditions, the top three finishers from each elimination advance to the final, plus one fourth-place finisher which will be drawn by lot. The winners of each elimination will draw for posts two through six.

for some reason, WEG seems to think posts 2 to 6 are basically equivalent--and that shows ignorance, post #6 obviously is best but post #5 is clearly the 2nd best post

I would rather have post #7 or post #8 over post #2

they should be allowed to choose--not a blind draw from 2-6

agreed, pappilon
not sure why they make it so difficult
put the 3 winners in a draw and they get picked out and they each pick their post
then do the same with second place finishers
then the third place finishers

Agree there has to be a better way.  Something like this might liven up elimination races.  As they are mostly unbettable now.

Someone at the track said that if there were only 3 eliminations, then the winners draw for 3 through 5, and then PP's 2 and 6 are only added if need be. I didn't read anything like that in the race conditions, nor did I hear anything like that. While I don't think it's true, it might be a good idea.

why would you penalize an elim winner by not having them have post #6?

do you realize how big the advantage is for that post?
