It's cheaper to keep them at some of the training centers in New Jersey.

Tony is a good guy but he's learning a lesson just about every trainer eventually discovers: you cannot keep heading down to the yearling sales and purchase 3-5 Million dollars worth of stock. This isn't the Tbreds. May be easy for Myron Bell to spew out those clinches about "not just buying a filly, you're buying a broadmare"---he's always been a shell for George and helping George get stupid money for the yearlings he puts up for auction. And to purchase land and build something like that for scratch is akin to the guy who tries the golf course thing. 90% of the time they are never around when the first Tee shot is delivered five years later. Here's hoping it works out for him and he can reboot in a more modest, Casie Coleman fashion.

sorry grandstand
have to disagree
if someone is a "top trainer" they dont have a run like his last 3 years
no one gets more top quality yearlings than he has the last 3-5 years with limited success
but he owns very little of them overall, spent his money on that training center and changing course very quickly now

Nifty Norman in the most recent HRU "What does the future hold for you?

“As the beginning of this conversation foretold, I am not
particularly bullish on racing here in the Northeast. I am now
of an age where I’d be reluctant to pick up and leave. However,
circumstances might force me to do what I’d rather not do. I
have been doing some scouting mostly in Kentucky. I wish I were
the only one, but sadly I am not alone. If we have a future, that
is probably where it lies."

That's OK. I agree with your points. I am not just looking at the #'s. I know him as a trainer, horseman, etc. While Tony simply hasn't produced based upon the budget he had/spent, and his owners simply didn't do well, that to me doesn't label him as not a top trainer. I am simply saying he's a very good horsemen and a top trainer independent of his results. Like you said, he's had a tough 3 year run. The numbers would be exceptional.....i f he didn't spend and start with what he did. LOL.

I hear whispers that he is in a heap of financial trouble.

This is what happens when you flat out lie to owners and get caught.

Did Anthony settle down with a new man?
Even if they don't win- if they come back sound & we'll try it again. They'll still be fed & well taken care of.
Have to keep them happy, well fed & rested.
They pay us back in money & memories to last a lifetime.
