Skipping the Preakness, will run Belmont/Jim Dandy/Travers would be my guess. 3 big races at same place, no travelling involved

Oak Grove is relatively new so alot of people have never heard of it. Even though it's in Kentucky, it's only an hour from Nashville which isn't exactly harness country so attracting new fans is difficult.

I'm fairly certain Mott is doing the best thing for the horse. No need to burn him out.

Sandman will run in Preakness

OZONE PARK, N.Y – Sandman has entered the Preakness picture.

Sandman, the Arkansas Derby winner who finished seventh as the second betting choice in the Kentucky Derby, has come out of the race well enough in trainer Mark Casse’s estimation to run back in next Saturday’s $2 million Preakness Stakes at Pimlico.

“He’s trained really well, he’s got good energy, he’ll go to Pimlico on Monday,” Casse said.

I’ve been in Nashville 25 years. Even with all the transplants, NOBODY knows harness racing exists. Everybody knows about tbreds. Most thoroughbreds bred today has bloodlines tied to Nashville. That said Pop Geers has a 40ft statue in Columbia, TN, just south of Nashville

Journalism is alive and well and going to the Preakness.

Aron Wellman, of Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, which co-owns Journalism, said late Sunday afternoon that the Kentucky Derby runner-up will run in Saturday’s $2 million Preakness Stakes at Pimlico, where he will likely be an odds-on favorite in what is shaping up to be a nine-horse field.

Wellman announced the decision in a posting on X, formerly Twitter.

In a phone interview late Sunday afternoon, Wellman told Daily Racing Form that he and his fellow owners, Don Alberto Stable, Bridlewood Farm and Bob LaPenta, had wanted to run in the Preakness. They just wanted to make sure the horse was amenable.

Trainer Michael McCarthy flew from Los Angeles to Louisville over the weekend, watched the horse train at Churchill Downs on Sunday and was pleased with how the horse is training.

“He wanted to see him in the flesh and he was really pleased with what he saw,” Wellman said. “He had a nice gate schooling session and trained well after that. [McCarthy] went over him this afternoon and the horse is telling us to go, so we’re going to listen to him.”

Looks like a pretty competitive Preakness on Saturday.

if having a 3/5 favorite means that the race is competitive--then it is now

While he might be the best horse in the field, I wonder if his running style favors a race like this. It's a shot for a "classic" victory and certainly can help make a stallion.

Ya never know how the horse will come back after only a two week break. On another note.. hopefully Pimlico works out their starting gate issues. I think they have had 3 races as no contests because of that. They only had all winter to make sure they were working properly
