good comments
question for you guys that are regular gamblers
these preferred races with the heavy chalks that have won 3-4 in a row, do you bet these races or just pass on them
i guess my point was just that i assume these races do  lower handle  than more competitive and even races

i pass on every Mohawk race the last two years

the dramatic odds drop/betting after the bell makes that place impossible to play--it has been worse these last 24 months

i still watch here and there

right on
some nights even chad rozema is shocked when he sees the odds at the 1/4 pole and how they have changed since the horses went behind the gate

Our friends at the now defunct Cal Expo used to run their preferred events with all but one of their starters in normal formation with the heavy favorite heading out to the outside #10 all by himself.

Very interesting and thought provoking thread/comments. I've been working Woodbine and in the short field top class, one, it's temporary, so people grab while the grabbing is good. Two, for me, I am looking to beat the favorite and if I can't, it's better next time, LOL. While the traditional handicap might not be a true handicap, why not do it. Sure. People can argue all day long that it might help this horse or that horse, but that's why the run the races. Might. LOL. Good idea.

jc, i like that idea
what if the race secretary actually put some thought into it
take Monday night pref trot( fyi i dont think it would make a difference in the result based on logan park) however...

logan park starts 10
gaines hanover  8
fashion frenzie 6
of course many nights different horses etc but  the format would still be applicable

the remaining 4 horses draw for 1-4 post based on earnings last 5,
maybe that gets some betting interest
also you cant just be handing out $18k weekly for a jog around the track

i agree 100%--but we are talking about a bunch of judges who cant even handle pylon violations--so there is not a lot of confidence they could judge if these post positions are really followed behind the gate-and of course they wouldnt DQ or scratch a horse because he/she lined up illegally as they leave

That's interesting.
