mohawk preferreds
« on: May 05, 2025, 01:46:20 PM »
the last few weeks mohawk has run the preferred pace and preferred trot
on the pace side you have brue hanover crushing everyone now for 5-6 weeks
on the trot side you have logan park , winning as he pleases, now gaines hanover in the mix
but  the race office never makes these a handicap ???
would it not make for a more competitive race and wagering opportunity if post positions were assigned/handicapped based on earnings in the last 3 or 5 races
so ridiculous to see logan park or brue hanover draw the 3,4 post  and go off at 1/9

Either would be undeterred by a less good post. But Logan Park must be packing his bags for Sweden and Nijinsky made a final 1/4 of 25.4 look like a Sunday jog this morning. So things can change and soon.

Drawing outside would actually help both of them but things will change soon

lets hope
the tracks in the usa have no issue doing handicaps but s for some reason not here
you think mohawk would try something different in that class
i agree whip , the way mohawk is 6 or 7 is ideal, maybe handicap them  with the rail !!!

What some tracks do when the same horse wins the feature 2 or 3 weeks in a row, they make him skip a week, or in Delaware assign them the outside post.

handicapping the best horse with the rail would be logical

i doubt WEG cares much about assigning post positions in these small fields

amazing how post #6 is such a huge help--for several years now not just a small sample size

the driver can see what is going on inside and out

It's easier to leave from the outside at Mohawk than the inside.

Worse spots for the leavers definitely 3-4 at Mohawk, get squeezed by horses firing outside. Agree with another poster, hate betting trotters with the rail honestly

good comments
question for you guys that are regular gamblers
these preferred races with the heavy chalks that have won 3-4 in a row, do you bet these races or just pass on them
i guess my point was just that i assume these races do  lower handle  than more competitive and even races

The win pool is definitely lower because people are betting exotics instead.

Agreed. If I had to drive to the track to wager, I probably would, but being in the comfort of my house it's easy to pass on a race when there are so many tracks and races to choose from.

Why not handicap heavy favorites with distance instead of post?

Races in Europe, where horse racing is actually growing, often have 10-20 yard distance handicaps.
