Aus Harness vs US Harness racing
« on: March 23, 2025, 10:50:24 AM »
Anyone here watch Aussie races?

They actually race unlike most tracks here that just go single file around the track.  Races here just seemed so staged.  They take take turns (especially at Yonkers).  That track is a joke.   I can't get myself to bet those races.  And Meadowlands has become another Yonkers for the most part.  It would be nice to see these guys actually move out and make a race of it.  Pocono Downs is actually the only track where I've seen more "racing" then anywhere else.  It's become my track of choice for the most part.

I think the single file thing needs to stop imo.  I believe that contributes to more accidents.  Especially when these guys are laying so far back in the bike and following single file around the track.  Just not enough time to react.  Aussie races are more competitive.  Seems like here it's just all about the betting and drivers/trainers/owners scooping small pools.

Just my two cents but changes need to be made in this sport or it will be gone soon.

I think Northfield outdoes Pocono. Cheaper horses, but driven harder.

Gamblers don't give a shit about horses and the desire to keep them sound.
Fuck, just send them and race their guts out week after week.
If that is what you want, you should be pushing for 1/2 mile races on a straight course.
Like quarter horse racing!!

Where do you come up with the idea “they take turns”? Do you not realize drivers only get paid if they get a check with the horse?  Please don’t go into they get their money through the windows. Especially at Yonkers the winner 5% is usually higher than the whole handle in the race

  • Calhoun: Thx I'm leaning to the 5 there.  Those CD/GP full field races look the best on the page. 1/2 length from being a G3 winner.
