If people don't think AC has a bunch of politicians in their back pocket, they don't have a clue!   tmbz1

Most posters here don't have a clue about NJ politics

they think Gural deserves a casino because he kept M1 going a extra few years

AC has paid off Trenton politicians since the late 70s to ensure there will be no other casinos outside Atlantic City

 I have NO idea why that is so difficult to understand

Jeff Gural acts like he's the savior who saved Meadowlands, but everybody knows he did it hoping for a casino to be built so he can line his pockets.  Now that it's extremely unlikely to ever happen, he's crying poor and threatening to close the place in a few years.

He is the savior of the Meadowlands, he wanted a casino, didn't get it but still racing. Who tries to save it after he's gone. He's 83 and doesn't look that healthy. Just keep racing. Let him bitch.

Hate it when millionaires like him cry poor. Would he have saved it if he knew he wouldn't get a casino, who knows.

Rich people like him invest money so they can become even richer. Still don't think he belongs in the Hall of Fame, exactly what are his credentials, just because he saved Meadowlands?

Jeff Gural on HRU:

"In any case, I am totally committed to keeping The Meadowlands afloat and, while we will lose millions of dollars in the next two years, I am reasonably optimistic that at the end of the day we will have a casino, and our racing product will once again be the best in the world with no drag and a lower takeout."

NJ people have long said there would never be slot machines outside AC. There aren't, but the law got passed to allow it. NJ people long said there would never be OTW, until they said OJK. NJ people also said there would never be anything other than pari-mutuel wagering and AC in NJ. Until sports betting. Times change. People, including politicians change. Sometimes because they want to. Sometimes because they have to.

Today there are casinos up and down outside the NJ borders. There will be more, and who knows, they might get closer. If NJ wants to be foolish, it won't be the first time. Regardless, I think we will see a casino in NJ outside AC within the next 15 years, 20 at the outside. I can't say it will be at the Meadowlands, but I do think that location will be the frontrunner. And here's the secret...it will be a casino company that gets it. Gee, what a surprise. LOL. If Gural was given a casino tomorrow, it wouldn't be "Jeff's Casino". Gural would partner with a casino company. He always was going to and he always will. I also think if it happens, the horsemen will get the best deal nationwide. You may not like him. But he did what nobody else could do. People talked. But his call was the only one answered. Don't believe it? The Meadowlands is open.

I mentioned in another thread about 1 week ago that he was sitting at the next table at Trotters the Friday before last.  I went over to him and asked about a casino at the meadowlands, and he was sure he would have 1 within 2 years.

But racing 6-8 sundays and that’s it helps nobody. I’ll be eating Sunday dinner with family not wasting all day in Jersey

 So you're making it a religious thing?
It's a great game, if you have the means to play
 Can't ask for much more;
 Health, wealth, family = happiness that you will never understand.
