A great book about harness racing!
« on: October 03, 2024, 07:48:43 PM »
I've always been an avid reader about both harness and throughbred racing. And while I've been an owner of both in the 80's and 90's, my success at this venture was a abysmal failure. I made friends, had a lot of laughs, but in the end, my horses made no impact and no money. But I still love reading those books! If you want a great and easy read, pick up "WAY OF LIFE" by Bob Marks. It's a fun and interesting yarn from a guy who's been in harness racing since his high school days. Any fan will just love this book!

It is an excellent book!!! Written from the perspective of an intellect, a high IQ and EQ,  and someone who is a lifelong member of and participant in this sport and industry----at every level imaginable. Bob started out as a handicapper/gambler, became a pedigree/breeding expert and consultant, and an advisor to some of the most high-powered owners and breeders in the industry. More importantly, Bob is truly an expert's expert and has one of the most widely admired and respected opinions and reputation in the sport and industry today. I think Bob may be the most knowledgeable person in the sport and industry today.

Read the book!!!

This is good to hear. The Roosevelt and superfecta-fix books are unreadable.

I was never a fan of Bob Marks. Decades ago, I used to appear on a weekly cable show produced in Secaucus, NJ. During an episode with Bob, we had a disagreement about what constituted a perfect trip. The scenario was a horse who was second over behind dead cover , off a slow half to boot. When I mentioned the horse had a horrible trip, Bob corrected me saying that a horse is second over, that is a perfect trip. What an idiot.

Even if you're 2nd over, if your cover is bad, you're screwed!

  • Kirby's Cousin: I realize you're 3/4 of the way up Mike's butt, but why should you care who comes on Mike's show, you act like it's your show. Do you expect people to come on a show just to be ridiculed and have a big mouth like you hone in from time to time. What is the lure of coming on his show other than when you were on and kissed his butt the entire time?
