These syndicates have always operated the same way: that is, it's a hell of alot easier to get 100 people to part with a thousand dollars than it is to get one guy to part with 100K. Divide and conquer, create cash flow to keep the machine running and charge a nice fee to run it. Any person with a bit of brains knows this and doesn't care, those that do should try spending 40-50K and taking on all the bills and they may reconsider how they'd like to participate in the sport.

Arrange meetings with trainers through horsemen’s associations, et al and hopefully connect and do business with one who is compatible with you as well as a good track record.

Randolph- you sound really bitter.

But it’s ok- between the two you only own a piece Bout Damn Time don’t you?

If you hate VIP so much why do you keep on buying parts and pieces from them?

I’ve never gone with the fractional ownership’s because it is to much work as a trainer to deal with 100 people instead of just one. I’m curious though. Do the groups have a contract you need to sign before joining up and owning a small piece of a horse?  Seems like they should, I know if I was an interested person I would want a contract before I paid money to be involved.

Pants on Fire bought for $20k and sold for $150k after qualifier. Made a good profit. Whether you buy through a partnership or individually it's still a high risk lottery ticket. Expect to lose more than you make.
And after the qualifier if I remember - he was a dud.... Go fast early -- sell..... True strategy to make money.....

I don't see what all the talk is about. This has long been part of the industry, harness, even longer in t-breds, and it's prevalent in countless other industries-----real estate, Wall St., etc. Entire industries are built on this model-----investors, limited partners, and simply, OPM, other people's money. It's all about expenses, management fees, 2 and 20, whatever. Like with any industry, there's good ones and bad ones, good people and thieves.

Tried them years ago. Bought in to a NZ horse that got sick here and never raced.  You won't be listed in the program. You just pay your % of the bills and get your % of any purse checks.
sounds honest enough
