I worked for melander. He had very good help at the time. He let them alllllll go thinking it was him. Guess again.

In my opinion, if you have a good competent dependable groom you pay them whatever it takes to keep them. It's a hard dirty job with shit hours and it's hard to find anyone willing to do it, let alone do it well.

Trainers have a tendency to not appreciate good help until they're gone and replaced with a drunk groundhog.

Couldn't agree more.  You see some operations where the employees take pride in what they are doing and others look like they found a homeless drunk on the freeway to paddock their horse.

great comments and points
he is not the only one struggling, others are too
they all tend to get too big  and too many horses an you cant find good help, if you are a good trainer and have 30-40 horses you can keep an eye on them all and make sure you ae jogging /training each a couple of times
but these guys get to 70 and above its the assistant trainers and grooms that do it all and you have to hope they are good because you have no clue what horse is what

they also had a french girl in the barn that did the work of 8 people. with the touch of a horse whisperer. first they hired her husband, then they let them both walk

i think at one point he was hungry

then when he got success it became about the video not the results anymore
the Mission Brief baby Jaya Baye was going to be a superstar but she needed time
instead they kept her up front in the first set so it looked good. that was the year with damien. same with him. clearly needed time but rushed him in the top set so the videos would look good
