NJ Breeders Maturity Today at Meadowlands??????
« on: April 20, 2024, 06:07:00 PM »
Why did they have two races for the same purse money at the Meadowlands today and have one horse in the first race and three in the second race?  Why not put two horses in each, or put all four in one and double the purse ? Just wondering.

I believe both conditions were for 4 YO Mares. The same.

Yes, the 2 races you're talking about were both for mares. Must be following NJ rules, because they did the same thing for the 4-year-old Hores & Geldings, 4 in each race for 12,500 each.
Only 1 race was non-betting & the other was a betting race. (4th, now with 1 scratch, down to only 3 entry's)

4 year old trot colts and geldings.
4 year old trot mares
4 year old pace colts and geldings
4 year old pace mares
What is the problem?
I am just an old horse trainer still going around in circles. Sometimes Fast. Sometimes Half-Fast.

Well, that was so obvious I didn't read very well! (past horses & mares) Thanks for setting us straight.

I don’t know why those idiots at Big M wouldn’t know they should put trotters and pacers in same race

The 4-horse trot race ran as 3 for a horse was scratched. Handle for the race was only $13,000 which was the lowest single race handle in years. That handle may have decided the fate of future 4 horse-carded races going forward. I honestly don't know why they even had it as part of a Saturday night card.

IMO to have 14 races, without it, it's only 13. Mecca of harness racing can't have a card with less then 14 races lol

It's safe to say that we're probably seeing the last of the NJ Breeders futurity races.  Jeff Gural isn't going to put up purse money for 4 and 5 horse fields.

They can't have cards any other nights because they lose too much money.

The purse was only $12,500. The amateur's race for almost that much.  Curious if they reached the $3 million handle. These cheap horses and small fields are taking a toll.
