Finish Line

Second rookie question - many times I have noticed a driver has his/her head turned left
towards the tote board area or finish-line mirror.  Why is that?

They are watching the large video screen. many do it before the finish on smaller than mile tracks to see the positioning of the other horses in teh race. Very common

Usually they’re looking at the timer.

They are looking at the timer because that is what the glory is now. Sometimes at some tracks it's the big video screen. Have you EVER heard Round Mound of Sound Roger screaming the time all the time?

There was a time when no tracks had race times posted around the track. Any driver of any count carried a stop watch.
Other then the fairs, I think Tony Morgan was the last guy I saw carry a stop watch.
I think Sp Park may have been the last IL. track to install timers at the 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4.
I am just an old horse trainer still going around in circles. Sometimes Fast. Sometimes Half-Fast.

  • Calhoun: Thx I'm leaning to the 5 there.  Those CD/GP full field races look the best on the page. 1/2 length from being a G3 winner.
