Palone retirement?
« on: February 07, 2024, 07:12:48 PM »
Couple of us were  chatting today after the races here & we are starting a pool. Dave P rt now is 3rd behind Wrenn & Aaron, if he should get dethroned as the leading driver here, tops for the last 33 yrs, do you think he would retire?

Palone is driving at a very high level and is doing a pretty good job.  i would bet he will be driving for a  long time.

If he wanted to he could be leading driver.  Dave is finally enjoying his time now.  I'm sure he could care less about the driving title.  No one will ever dominate a track for 33yrs like he has.

That’s all he lives drivers for is to be the king of the Meadows, o don’t think his ego could take it. I was talking with Wren in the paddock yesterday and he said his not going to miss any days there.

He's had racing in his lie and blood for far too long to just say I'm done! I believe that as long as he is healthy he will be part time for a long span! There is no doubt that he will definitely make an adjustment to the number of races that he will drive on a card. I believe that if he trims his schedule and takes off when the weather is crappy the rejuvenation could be just what he was looking for! If something like this comes his way we will never see him on another rank or foul gaited skunk again. The hardest time for a guy to stay retired is when the nice weather breaks away the doom and gloom has run its course and spring is in the air. Should be interesting to see how things evolve. I

It's middle of February. Now if it was middle of November I could see this being an issue.  Losing the Burke account hurts but I got faith in my man Palone!  Wrenn and merriman are no slouch though

I think once stakes season in Ohio picks up Palone will be able to make up any ground that he’s lost. I think the wild card in all this is Mike Wilders health.

Money is still too good to retire. Even if he's third or fourth...

If and when he retires - he deserves it.

Just checking out his stats -- he's 4 behind Wrenn and 2 behind Arod.

Batting avg of .329

Just over a month he has $224k in purses or his 5% = just over $11k for 5 weeks of work + tips

Way to go

He's not going anywhere, why would he it's a great income and he's enjoying life. I just hope he starts to get more selective of his mounts. He is way past being able to say NO I'm not driving that thing.

Palone will continue to drive until his name isn't on the sheet
He isn't competitive
He gets in a wreck and hurt very badly (do not wish this on him or anyone)

The guy can still drive a horse and will more than likely be your top guy yet again. And if he isn't he's won way more driving titles than most poppers have dollars 🤣
