If not....., who?
« on: September 19, 2023, 08:33:23 AM »
Let's say some horse other than Cannibal, Seven Colors or IMS wins the JUG, who in your estimation would that be? My guess is Stockade Seelster. What's yours?  Thanks for playing tmbz1

I think that he is definitely the logical choice, however with the right trip or a bit of luck,he may be the unexpected winner. Alot of variables will be in play along with the fact that these horses cannot tell you if they have a pounding headache when they begin their day!

How does one factor the fact that the 1st heat finalists will have  atleast 90 minutes until the final! Why so many races on a important day in the sport? If they think that the gate will open every 18 minutes, then they are more ignorant than I thought they were!

Trainer knowledge is an overlooked factor when handicapping the Jug.  You just cant ready a horse for the Jug like you would for the all too common 1 mile dash of today.
I love the heat racing. Difficult to get enough yogurt in a horse to last 2 heats.  Most years you see a horse charging down the lane in the first heat and staggering in the final.

Totally agree with you  25 races is absurd and the timing does suck

The only horse I can see upsetting is -- Huntinthelastdola r -- only because he's dominant on a half. But I don't think it's gonna happen. Cannibal would be my choice.

Excellent point Mailbox. And this is why Confederate remains in his stall at the Red Mile. They should cater to the big event not cram 24 races in. In fairness to all the Jug entrants those 3 races should go off with no more than 10 minutes in between each one.

Thats how it use to be. Elims were like race 8 and 9   Final was like 12th or 13th.   Then some unimportant race to cap off the day.  MAX # of races should 14 or 15
