The overriding factor in purchasing a yearling is determining how much purse
money will be available in their Sires Stakes Program for 2 and 3 year olds in their
racing season. In Illinois, it's pretty safe to say, that mostly every yearling purchased
at the two yearling sales will be in for a substantial loss.
The latest rumor surrounding the 2024 harness racing season in Illinois has Hawthorne
racing harness through mid-February. The thoroughbreds will begin their season mid-March
and race all summer with their meet closing sometime in mid November. Thus the harness
horsemen will be limited to some summer dates at Springfield and Duquoin racing for
peanuts and always under the threat of cancellation due to track conditions.
Unfortunately, that is what those 500 plus 2 year olds and 500 plus 3 year olds will
be facing in 2024. It's a very, very sad situation for Illinois harness horsemen.

Count on next to nothing purse wise. IL is a defumct program in need of life support.

Writing in complete sentences and doing math disqualifies Mr Wonderful from having a valid opinion on this forum.    ngc3
