Yonkers starting gate to solve problems
« on: January 24, 2023, 01:22:51 PM »
Well it didn't on Monday night

No horse won outside the four hole

No horse paid over $10 to win.....

Nothing to see here.

very true
however the gate only helps for the first 1/16 of  a mile or less
so if no drivers of those outside horses tries to leave than it is not going to do anything

Very True  tmbz1

Figure the USTA is waiting for that fluke night that a 7 and 8 hole do win - and then will write a nice fluff piece about the sport at yonkers is changing.

A couple of us at otb where watching the other night we were saying why even have a 7-8 hole anymore run 1-6 unless you have a horse that can blast out your done. The lineup bs thats 90% of time 27 - 57 or 28 - 58 half's then blast home all the racing is done the last 1/8 of mile granted sometimes the race falls apart but far and in between.

If they want to make it fair just don’t have a starting gate and give the 7-8 a five length lead into the turn and then the others can do what they need to do. They don’t need a second half starting gate for 7-8. Just keep the 1-6 behind the gate and let the 7-8 get a five lengths lead and over to the rail and then fold the single wing and release 1-6

Very true. Certain drivers seem to get a pass to the front-drivers know each others strategy-so if they see Bartlett for eg-drawn inside on a horse with speed--no one takes it on-everyone takes back-Indian file--the race is on last 1/4- that's it--horses at back 0 chance.
Staggering the date-VERY good idea---but its not enough. Have a look at a human 400 meter event-the ones on the outside-are 30 Meters ahead on the one on the inside--granted they have to race on the outside--but you get the idea. The gate at Yonkers needs the 7-and 8 horses another 3-4 feet ahead IMHO-----OR as suggested earlier--start the race 50 meters earlier so you have more track till the first turn.
