good example of the dead game called harness racing
« on: April 15, 2022, 09:21:36 AM »
watching replays from Hoosier Park last Friday

Race 1
the 2-5 favorite lets a horse go and retakes quickly

1/4      27.0
1/2      57.0   (30.0)
3/4    1:27.3  (30.3)
Fin     1:53.2  (25.4)

Noone moved the entire mile even the stretch -- looked like a qualifier.
Everyone racing for a check, probably couldn't beat the favorite. Can't really blame them.
Nothing the judges could really do....

Just boring ass racing.

Oh ya. This proves your theory 100%.
The 1.9 million they bet at Mohawk last night proves it as well.

yes mohawk does have an online handle..... But obviously the massive majority is bet online...

Which to be gracious -- say they get 5%, k-- That would be $95k --- now again, I know they have a live handle so lets bump their take to 125k --- that's for everything --- purses, utilities wages, taxes and on and on.

Last night purses were $161,000

MWINS -- total handle means dick if it doesn't cover the expenses...   As Gural says, and he was quoted, everynight they turn the lights on,,,, they lose money..... Hence the drag that at least they do not shy away from  in order to hit a $3 million goal...

So my theory isn't 100% --- just stating that with a product that promotes front end speed, no movement,  and large % of favorites, we are going to lose the customers to other forms of gambling.

Fair points.
But they also lease space to the casino, on the property which they own. You don't see that revenue stream in the handle.

How many years have people been yelling that harness racing is dead at this forum?
It just isn't true.
