This sport is in trouble. You have a group of about 20-30 owners and 7-10 trainers that win the majority of major stake races. Some of these races for finals they take the top 10 money earners. Burke could put 6 horses in and leave some other owners with horses twiddling their thumbs because he’s got 300.
The owners of Alagna and Takter make up the majority of the stake races in the NJ-PA corridor and by partnering up are able to take away the majority of the purse money. If tacks don’t go back to limiting the number of entries per stable/ trainer/owner then soon there will be only 10-15 trainers and those groups of owners can race against themselves.
   It’s like the lions and the antelopes. If the lions keep eating all the antelopes there’ll be no antelope left. And the lions will die off feeding on one another.
Solution:limit the number of entries per stable, owners will be forced to employ other trainers. B) monitor illicit activities at these large stables. The old premise of “follow the money” will usually dig up the dirt.
