Somehow he must have been given an exemption from the 14 day quarantine rule by being considered an essential worker. I guess those Canadians don't care if they import a little of this Covid stuff.

originally was supposed to quarantine 14 days which meant he would have not been able to race until August 29, the night of the finals
so yes he must have got an exemption and reduced time by taking a covid taste and waiting for the resuults  and once negative was frre to drive

I have a friend (Canadian) that needed to cross the border 4 times within a months time on one day trips to do business. He told me he called both Health Canada & Immigration asking for an exemption because if he have to go into quarantine for 14 days each time he returned, of course his 4 trips would be impossible. My friend was told sorry but rules are rules. My friend told me they never offered him the option of just taking a Covid test & get a negative score & then being free from quarantine. I guess this option is just for harness drivers?

He is driving this Saturday.  This is what he said on Facebook a couple days ago

"Figured I’ll put this out so at least everyone get the facts straight
I did received an exemption when I crossed the border at 3:30pm Saturday afternoon
I have 2 negative covid test, one taken in NJ on Thursday(doesn’t count for WEG) and one more taken Saturday night in Ontario
All the documentation including the exemption email from the government and the negative result has already been given to WEG and I have been given the ok to race
I will be racing TDS Saturday and some others as well"

Yannick normally drives vs. the best drivers in the world, e.g. Dunn, Tetrick, and David Miller. There is no one on the WEG circuit remotely as good.  He will win a lot of races in the next month up there.

Or just available to people who aren't losers---probably like your friend.
