Illinois Gambler Tretter Settles Lawsuit Over Race Fixing

Case against trainer, owner settled, with donation to SRF

On Friday afternoon (June 26),  a long and unsuccessful witch hunt against our clients, Bob Bresnahan
and Len Sodowsky, came to an end.  After spending over a million dollars in legal fees and sending out
dozens of subpoenas, PETA, by settling, finally acknowledged that it never really had a case against Mr.
Bresnahan and Mr. Sodowsky and settled on behalf of gambler Jeffrey Tretter for the paltry sum of
$12,500.
Additionally, as part of the settlement and mandated by Mr. Sodowsky, a donation of $7,500 will be made
to the Standardbred Retirement Foundation.
Paying the legal fees out of their own pockets these last three years, Bob and Len stood up for horsemen
and horsewomen everywhere against the limitless funds of PETA in its unique attempt to find another way
to put an end to horse racing.  Bob’s contention that he never raced Tag Up And Go in January of 2016 on
any performance-enhancing drugs would have proven successful, and the flimsy RICO claims made
against Mr. Bresnahan and Mr. Sadowsky fell apart.  This is an enormous victory for the horse racing
community.
The case by Tretter was based on the gambler's assertion that if the Bresnahan-trained, Sadowsky horse
was not in the race, the payoffs would have been different and thus he was deprived of a big payoff for his
wagers. (with files from the law firm of BARDSLEY, BENEDICT + CHOLDEN LLP)

I agree. tmbz1

The guy was claiming he lost almost $30,000 because of the cheating which I thought he had zero chance of winning.

So settling for $12,500 couldn't have covered his legal bills...could it?

PETA was paying for lawsuit. The fact of any settlement against a cheating trainer is a win for them. Wait for more lawsuits every time one of the scumbags get caught. $20k a lot more than any commissions will ever charge
