Big difference that people miss is that while Sweden will get hit worse initially... once it's over, it's over. The US lowered the numbers by a certain percentage locking themselves in their basement. But will catch a second wave when they all emerge. And that's the thing...  there are way more than 21k cases, that's just how many are confirmed by testing. If you are ONLY testing people in vulnerable groups (old,sick,fat...basically me) who are showing symptoms then yeah it could be 10% The fatality rate for this thing looks to be around .03 % worldwide. Anyone using ridiculous numpers like 10% is using very flawed statistics to scare you. Unfortunately, we are using exactly these kinds of flawed statistics to shape public policy.

If only we had a trustworthy source for good numpers!

The 21521 cases isn't recovered so of the 21 k, there will be more deaths. You really need a final count of resolved cases. That would  compare recovered to deaths for an accurate number. the numbers I typically see are misleading virtually everywhere cited whether CNN or FOX. I myself (just observationally) do see this  though as much much more deadly than the flu. That the American co-19 deaths now exceed the flu for the yr is telling. We had a full season of flu and a partial season of co-19.

Also, the partial number you cite above, " .03 percent world wide", where does that come from. That's not even 1 in a 1000. Did you mean 3 percent.

The .03 number is  the total number of the world population (young old healthy frail) expected to die from this. By way of comparison the number quoted for Influenza was quoted as .01 indicating this bug is about 3x more deadly than the yearly flu. I honestly don't know how that is derived or if that even makes sense... I'm just citing one of the many things I see thrown around out there. I do recall that the wording on that was very careful. Like "it's too early to tell for sure, but early indications are..." which basically says the people putting it out are saying it's  only a best guess at this point.

But yeah, it's just a bitch to figure out what is hype and what isnt. Every day it seems like you get different spins on it and I think as of late you are also seeing a lot of politics getting involved.  Though in guess in retrospect there has always been politics involved in all this.

There's a clip going around of Rachel Madcow reporting the US leads the world in total cases with a smug little grin on her face. Of course she also neglects to say the US by far leads the world in number total tested (which is not the same thing as total per capita tested).  Of course the more tests you do the more likely you are to find positives. It's not evidence of anything, but really all she wanted to do is say "Orange Man Bad" and to those inclined to believe that, it's evidence enough.
