so your horse just turned 15....but
« on: January 01, 2020, 06:17:45 AM »
Charlottetown last night a rain out.
14 yr. old JNJ didnt get the swan song.

Racing again this weekend with many of same conditions.

Do you look the other way and give a 15 yr old a last check chance..or rules are rules?

Fraser Downs vancouver west coasters might remember this one about 10 yrs. ago...a game old vet SPIDER M getting numerous chances as a 15 yr old (3 maybe).......it could of have been permission given due to previous weather cancels and a horse colony kinda short on numbers.

at any rate...Happy and healthy New Years to all.

Forest Hill Vic A....quite a maintenance job by team Smith. He has another old bird who is 14 that holds his own.

I AM ALL IN FAVOR OF CHANGING THE RETIREMENT AGE RULE, START WITH 12 WITH A GOAL OF 10.  BREEDERS ARE THE FUTURE OF THE SPORT, NOT OLD GEEZERS RACING OVER THE HILL STOCK. YOUNG STEAK RACING IS WHAT TODAYS FAN EXPECTS, NOT THE SAME OLD SAME OLD RACING EACH OTHER WEEK AFTER WEEK.  PLUS PEOPLE WHO PAY TO RACE SHOULD BE GIVEN MORE THAN PEOPLE WHO STEAL FROM THE SPORT BY RACING OVERNITES

I guess you didn't notice that every U.S. stake card in 2019 other than the Hambo and Meadowlands Pace were out handled by M1 racing over the hill stock. Stake races are usually the most unattractive betting option. Also, racing older horses will show all the organizations out there who want to shut down racing because of catastrophic injuries will see that unlike the T-Breds, our horses are durable and our racing is safe and our horses aren't snapping legs in two every day or night.

WITH ALL THE DOPING, OUR RACING IS SAFE?
DUDE, WHAT KINDA ERB U DOIN?

15 is probably a good cut-off.  A lot of fans enjoy following their old favorites and some horse's become better race horses as they age.  I remember the gray horse from Canada ( maybe Blizzard something) who was a fantastic older horse setting his mark well after 10 years old and making I believe over 2 million, most of which was made in later years.  There also was a little trotter years ago at the meadows who was still tough in the claimer races, winning something like 14 races in his final year while the trainers son barrel-raced him successfully at the same time on the weekends.

No chance standardbreds would have more injuries than throwawaybreds.  Standardbreds have a denser bone structure.  Proven fact.
