few years back..15gs. Red mile last race 20cent hi5 carryover race

Just 2 winning tickets ( too bad horsemen, I got the other half!!)

It was a 10 horse scheduled event..but 2 scratches incl heavy m/l...so faux faves appeared and i played against them in top two slots..and voila...lucky as hell.

Won it at otb location suburban toronto on that sunday night.....off across town next day to Woodbine Racetrack in person.to get paid.
submitted id. at their simulcast desk on their quiet monday aft...signed release form if i remember...took about 25 mins and got a check(que).

True story.... walked into the sports/race book at the old Wyndham Hotel on Cable Beach in Nassau Bahamas.... just got off the plane... first bet of the vacation looked up at the board .... with 1 minute to post at Hoosier bet the outside (3) horses in a 3 horse tri box... trot... chalk jumped at the gait... took 4 horses out of the race with him... left 5 to go... 2 of the others jumped around the half... left just my (3).... 8-9-7... 1/2 of $6,300 on a $6 bet !!  Pretty much had a great vacation after that !!!

Clinton Raceway, early 90's, Wheeled Colonel Schneider Jr on top of the Tri. He disappoints and finishes 3rd behind a 18-1 winner and a 99-1 runner-up.
The announcer says "Please hold all tickets as there is no winning ticket sold". At that time in Ontario if there was no winning ticket - they paid out on any combo of the top 3 finishers. So I get the whole pool on 2 winning tickets -$3300.
Claimed a horse the next week with the winnings. She wins 4 of her next five including a minor stake race for total purse winnings of about $9000.
................. ....those were the days!

Remember the name of the horse?

I think I owned that front running (but fast) rat!  73cv.2 73cv.2 ngc3 ngc3

I wasn't there that day but remember not understanding the payoffs.

Balmoral in the late 90s. Crazy Henry screaming he had it figured all out. Gave me 3 horses to box, said don’t look at the board. Boxed the three in a $2 tri. 3 longest shots on the board. Just about threw away the ticket, they end up finishing 1-2-3. Paid $8800 for my $6 bet. Light Switch N was one of the horses, don’t remember the other two. Paid Henry $50 to sign the ticket

Dreamfair Vogel...went from Jason Libby to first start Robinson. I remember there was two minutes to post and he was 18-1, I got a hard on 10 dogs couldn’t chew off.  Back the. Any first time Robinson was never better then 3-1.  I think I even ran to my car to find loose change. Horse just crushed. Almost 6k said and done. Had a fun night.

Bill knocked about 4 seconds off his LTM in that race.

Pompano Park, Spring of 1971, Maiden trot.
Three year old green trotter stable nickname "Horace Dupose Johns" wins and pays $83.60 with a young second trainer driving(me).
The colt had jumped it off the week before with the hall of fame trainer driving.
No one in their right mind would now bet with the second trainer driving. Our whole stable knew that Horace could trot enough if he behaved himself. I knew I just needed to keep him flat and out of trouble. We all bet our money and soon we did some real celebrating.
Those days only grooms for Stanley Dancer made as much as $83.60 a week. A two dollar bet got the grooms back more then a weeks wages.
In maiden races in the spring at Pompano you might find Haughton, Dancer, Miller, Sholty, etc so why bet a young second trainer.
Inside information when it is good it is real good!
