they already have too much purse money from their own slot parlor.  and now with springfield and everett operational with major casinos adding to it they could easily become the #1 track in u.s. history purse structure wise if the racing commission so desired. plans for a thoroughbred track seems to have fallen through and that was where most of it was to be allocated.

they just slid their bet on black over to red when the wheel stopped on red. they figured opening day confusion by inexperienced croupiers was a perfect time to try this decades old scam. i'm sure many others cheated in some manner and got away with it. these guys just got caught and will probably be banned from the casino for life, not that they care.

with purses going up one would think that some owners will ship in. scarboro closing this year so they'll get those. 3000 claimers running for 10k will attract new owners also. drew monti has found a new home there since deserting the drab upstate ny circuit.

i have to agree, mass, that t breds are needed in mass. plainridge purses are great. horse quality is below what they are runnning for. handle is pretty glum. most horses are from out of state. without a flat track in short time the statehouse greed will be easy to kick in by saying who in mass cares. at least a flat track brings more horsemen and jobs. its harder to take away the money if it looks like a lot of people will be harmed by the loss. someone else mentioned scarborough closing as a help but the money from scarboroughs purse account will go to bangor and the fairs. without scarborough, maines races will pretty much double in value. im thinking less horses from maine will race at plainridge.
