this story beats the story I have from the 90s when the starting gate car conked out when the gate was ready to open at the start of a race

Or the one from Ocean Downs in the 70's when a drunk maintenance man came out with tractor one lap early and the drivers were forced to go around him!

He didn't stiff the tractor, it scoped sick after the race.
