Here's my question for the big shot owners...

Why would you spend $25-$50k to breed and get a horse to it's first start and try to save $2,000 by breeding to a bottom tier stud?

Always A Virgin, Real Desire, Rockin Image, Fred ... what $3,000? $4,000? $6,000?
Swan 4 All, Mr Cantab, Guccio... same?

Other than Pete, do any Indy breds do anything after 3?

Actually, mandatory retirement should be done away with.  Not all of the senior citizens can still crank it up; but, plenty can - and, if that's what they still enjoy ..... why not  ?

older than 6 should be shit down?  Boy, is that moronic

Slot money should only be for 2 thru 5 year olds, to finance the Breeding part of the game.  Horses older than that should pay to enter overnight races and only receive purses based on handle they generate.  Too many people in this sport are takers, they give nothing back to the game. At least the people who participate in the stakes game are forward thinking as opposed to those who are only in it for the here and now.  People who race overnights only to earn a living are ruining the sport

I have been preaching this for years. In NY, slots generate close to $90,000,000 in harness purses alone. An additional $13,000,000 goes to breeding. Could you imagine the yearling market if you give say , $50,000,000 of that purse money to a  2-4 year old breeders racing and breeding program . It would create a world wide interest. But, no. They would rather give it away to out of state owners and many out of the country , as well.

Definitely not the case in Michigan.   The Horse association limits participation in breeding and stakes racing to protect their interest and does nothing for overnights yet people continue to race overnights.  Even to the point of paying an entry fee.
