That video went viral with over 4 million views, prompting the White House's Rapid Response account to lash out at reporters and critics rather than address the substance of what was recorded.
The pattern has repeated enough times that it's become its own recurring story. In August, footage from an Oval Office event on childhood vaccine policy again showed him struggling to stay alert, prompting even his own defenders online to insist he was simply "resting his eyes" or "looking down." One critic summed up the recurring cycle: "At this point, it's news when he makes it through a public event without falling asleep."
The White House has consistently pushed back, with officials including Secretary of State Marco Rubio saying they've "never seen him fall asleep." Trump himself has dismissed the concerns, blaming boring meetings rather than addressing the footage directly.
