The best horse definitely did not win that race.. One of the most exciting races I've watched in person. Fake Left before the LBJ that year had raced in the jug preview at Scioto a week and a half earlier and if memory serves he got dead last in that race.

Also, can't help but wonder.....why did Bill Fahy let Ron Waples go? LOL.

agreed, a top driver would never have let waples go at that point
having said that i still think western hanover should have gone by fake left

Fake Left/Western Hanover almost a dead heat like Waples/Fahy in Hambo with Probe and Park Avenue Joe.

Really nice tidbit Mike tmbz1 The one I like since we talked about BJ Scoot is:He hung Albert Albert
in the Jug. BJ Scoot was sired by Falcon Almahurst, Albert Albert by Abercrombie
In a prior Jug those very same sires did the same thing with Falcon Almahurst hanging Abercrombie.
Always thought that was a strange kinda cool coincidence.

Agreed, letting him go, and should have gone by him in the stretch, are two very different things. However, if Fahy doesn't let Waples go, he wins. Fake Left didn't just not let WH go by...Ron Waples got Fake Left to not let WH go by. Look at how Ronnie knew just when to get that horse brave and right up on the bit. Very, very smart drive by Ron.

  • Trigger: Very good analysis Calhoun, moreso from my perspective that Albin Jimenez was suspended and the #2 ride was really suspicious and overooked.  Is it possible that there is action equal to far greater outside mutual pools worldwide?

  • Calhoun: That tri pool was $4500. Net of takeout $3300.  Out of 60 possible outcomes, the result was  5th most likely out of 60 (using win odds to calc). Paid 14 to 1. Doesn't seem awful. It also would have been bet pretty good by the genpop. Maybe rigged for the 3 to win but the tri? I think not too likely.

  • Trigger: The race that everyone is talking about where Jimenez #1 stiffs his horse to finish behind the #3 his gf, but no one mentions the #2 (Lebron) and how he stiffed to be behind Jimenez.  To set up the 312 tri watch the stretch. [link]
