Too Many Betting options ?
« on: December 24, 2020, 08:36:41 AM »
Fixing Breakfast I flipped on TVG, they have on Vincennes from France....

Race 3 is a Trot -- Under Saddle,,,,, Interesting

The race offers
Win   $165k
Place  $122k
Quinella  $58,731

Now a complaint about harness racing is that too many favorites win -- And the pools are small

Would Harness racing do better if we got rid of the betting options that offered during a single race.
Not uncommon to see:
Win Place Show Exacta Trifecta Superfecta and some sort of horizontal wager DD, Pk3/4/5

Perhaps if we condensed the options the individual pools would be larger and maybe offer potentially bigger payoffs.

and when it was 0 minutes to post, they were circling the horses for a walk up start and were off in a minute.

You have to go back to the 60s and 70s mindset to have that happen.   Back then there were very very few exotics so almost all the money went into WPS and we still had the fish to bolster the pools before slots.

Unfortunately this ain't Europe and that's not coming back here anytime soon.
