… they will focus on the limited protection helmets provide, and seek improvements. Certainly they are an improvement compared to 40 years ago, but the helmets utilized in moto sports far exceed the protection utilized in this industry.

The industry doesn’t provide helmets to the drivers. They are free to choose one with better protection if they want. Helmets only provide so much protection and to be real in horse racing they can only cover so much and still have the ability too see what is going on around you

 Harness racing needs to do something for the safety of the drivers, I bought a new bike last year & it's crazy how light it is.
 Just like the one piece hockey sticks, some just shatter much easier than others do.

This might take a little engineering  but why not have a hinge on each side of the race bike.   Where it’s designed when bike is straight it’s stable but when the bike is being bent the hinge  bends when it’s being twisted or angle of bike being bent.  The hinge. Opens and causes bike not to be a catapult you into a launch.   Old wooden bikes shattered  but still many of people got catapulted into space.     Steve Leblanc.  Chris Shaw  just what I know of at the meadows   And a face guard on helmets can be another easy solution  it’s not the helmets they are mostly great saving lives but a face guard would not limit your views.   Anyone else have any suggestions I’m sure Usta would love to hear

Regarding.  Posture in the race bike.   I was fined and got days for being out of the confine of the race bike.    Yes Pat  Canpana   Spelling might be off he was the presiding judge at the Meadows in the 90s. He told me I was leaning back too far in the race bike, so yes, there is a roll. The judge just force it these days.

That is interesting. I have been in the business since 92 and never heard of that rule

I noticed last night at the Meadowlands a lot of the drivers were sitting upright instead of laying down like they were in a bed. That will only last for a while. They still had the hand holds way to far back but that's their choice. I won't say anything about the helmets because I had a good friend that the same thing happened to him. It's very sad.

I just spent a hour looking at the Usta rule book and can’t find the ruling for being out of the confine of the sulky    But believe me.  It happen.    I was driving Shane T Hanover  a trotting breed that I couldn’t get trotting so I put him on the pace   Head strong piece that was very hard to handle.

Hand holds are the key. They are so far back you can't possibly have the proper control of a horse,especially if they stumble or someone goes down in front of you.

Not sure hand holds are the answer either.   Every driver set them to there to where they are comfortable.   Seeing and watching the replay of hunters ax  theres just no way he could avoid    i took sone stills from video where horses head is turned almost 90 degress to the right   with him trying to avoid the carnage   to many horses invold causing no where to go.  also
you can see hunter trying to avoid.    Horse don’t have brakes or power steering. It’s sad    But he literally had no where to go.  Why you must keep one eye on your horse and the other on the horse in front of you
