In the article Brian didn't say the reason why he left Vernon to go to the Meadows. Or if he did, he couldn't say the real reason why he left.
Yes he did say, Vernon was closed for the winter. He stated in the article that Palone was listed on 4-5 in every race so he thought he could pick up some good work, Gate’s dropped him off and told him if it doesn’t work out call him and he would come pick him up.
Being from Meadows I remember Brain showing up with a small stable, maybe 5 horse. Gary Martin had a few for us and called us up when Palone picked off and said this Sears kid looks ok let’s us him.
That was after maybe 3 wks and the snow ball started.
I had a conversation with Brain when he was here maybe 18 or  19
He said then he was sitting on a few mill and was thinking about how much longer he wanted to do this. Then he fell into the Melander account. People don’t realize how stressful it his for the drivers that are the very best ,
After a while they reach a financial point where the stress out weights the money. There are very few in that situation, Campbell, Lanchance , Pierce & Sears. Palone is at the same point that’s why he doesn’t travel anymore.
There’s been a lot a great drivers just the above group who also had financial discipline to go along with the talent
