Woodbine vs. Meadowlands racing.
« on: August 29, 2025, 11:31:13 PM »
I used to love Woodbine Mohawk Park, but lately it seems the races are boring. There isn't any movement from horse's mid-pack or back. I was watching the Meadowlands tonight and what a difference. The horses can win from almost anywhere and seems like they are trying a lot harder. Someone else on the site mentioned something about Woodbine racing and I agree...

Mohawk has gone to total SHIT!  That isn't "racing" !  They turned it into a shit show.  Handle keeps dropping because people are fed up.  Product is garbage.  Fixed races!  James MacDonald the golden boy can do whatever he wants and never get a fine or suspension.  It's sickening.  They are out there playing sick games with people's money.  Eventually they will not be able to keep running like this or they will be down to 2 days a week like Meadowlands.

Meadowlands isn't so great either.  Nothing like it once was.  Harness racing is killing itself with all the corruption.  Lots of people who used to bet harness won't touch it now.

So true and I truly hope those people (most of us know exactly who they are), get replaced by people with integrity.
Probably a pipe dream, but I would like nothing more than Racing to continue for years to come.

Very few people in this world have come out ahead in the long term on gambling on ANYTHING. The rest are what you call LOSERS. All gambling odds are against the bettor. The LOSERS always resort to calling the sport fixed or corrupt without taking a look in the mirror and blame their own decisions.

Corruption is in every aspect of life. Harness racing isnt going away.  Most cheaters in all of life get caught.

This is partly true. There is alot of corruption in racing and it should be called out.. like that jockey from Belterra who just got a years vacation for fixing a race. However what I agree with is that all gambling obviously favors the house. Gambling whether on horses , cards, slots, sports  etc should be viewed as a form of entertainment. Go in with the mindset that you probably won't win..breaking even or a small loss is great and you won't be so angry or disappointed with the losses...and NEVER gamble what you cannot afford to.

I am a bettor and I am a fan. The former is my livelihood, the latter is my enjoyment. I also love the sport and the business, and in this case, it's fan, and participant. However, as a bettor, I don't have to like or enjoy the race. I have to find it bettable, and for me that means there has to be value, an opportunity for me to make money, risk vs. reward, and so forth. Now, as a fan, sure, I want to enjoy the race. But I separate the two. As a bettor, ideally, I like to see full fields, and competitive fields. I also look for pool size to bet into. Yes, ideally I'd like to see low takeouts as well. LOL. At the end, I want to see beaten favorites and value propositions.

Two conflicting statements. If the cheaters in harness racing get caught, harness racing will go away. There will never be enough entries to fill the box

Corruption, cheating, whatever you want to call it; it is never fixed. It's a cancer. Starts out small, and grows, spreads, etc. Tell me you think there is an acceptable or tolerable level of it, and I will tell you that you are destined to be consumed by it. I don't care if it's racing, breeding, or betting.

It's cause and effect. Cheaters will always look to break the present rules. They will continue to cheat. Until you stop them. Rules have to keep changing to prevent cheaters from continuing to cheat. It is not always feasible to have it work the other way. But when possible it can.

TOO FUNNY!  Totally wrong.   Cheaters in harness racing, thoroughbred racing, football, baseball, cycling, gymnastics, politics, etc have been getting caught, fined, suspended, and banned since their beginning and none of those sports have gone away or are about to!  ngc3 ngc3 ngc3

I realize all driver colonies have their clicks but it has seemed to me for years that Mohawk and before that woodbine, a driver always gives a tuck to the leavers which causes more skepticism. While I’m not a big fan of the Big M amateur driver races, I will say they drive to win and don’t give tucks to any leavers.
