fair point duke re HIP, my point was there is lots of opportunity for smaller guys to race and hopefully make a few dollars
as for the rich guys, thank god for them or most of the small guys would be out , imagine the yearling prices if the rich owners were not in driving up average prices
I think if you look at someone  like brad grant he probably contributes a lot to keeping the business going year round, even during the winter off season he likely has at least 10 horses race at Mohawk a week
as for them making their money elsewhere, of course, as we know and from reading this board nobody actually makes money from this business, it costs money

This is brilliant marketing. A million dollar race in which the owners put up 990k. WEG puts up 10k and promotes the shit out of it, as if they are somehow responsible.

Rich guys throwing around their egos. Who else would put up 110k for a chance at a 500k return?

That's a good analogy.  Buying into The Big Game

Only difference is everyone of those poker players is only putting up a portion of the entrance fee. Most of them sell pieces of their action.
The equivalent here could be someone like Julie Walker buying a spot, having already sold shares to her backers.

My point is, its a rich mans stake race. Not like the NA CUP where a small time guy with a nice horse gets a chance to make sustaining payments.
Its a no brainer, and great publicity stunt for WEG. They only put up 10k.

I agree WEG benefits most . Going to collect interest on money for 5 months should make up for the 10k they put in. Smart money says pay the 2k to be eligible to Wellwood if can’t win it probably can’t win the Million

Should be for horses five and older.
Keep more good horses in play.
The only ones interested in 2 yr old trotters
are the owners.
Will not be a good wagering event.

This is a prestige event for the owners, invented by the owners.  They are the biggest whales in the sport and don't care about wagering only bragging rights.

To Woodbine its one race but will come with a lot of media attention.

Only 3 owners have a chance to break even, or 2 if the Wellwood winner, who gets in free, hits the board.

This race will not add one fan in the seats, however, it will stroke the egos of some of the biggest players in the game. And that isn’t such a bad thing.

It will be fun to watch, just to see the maneuvering to get a seat.
