dayton record handle
« on: December 29, 2023, 09:23:30 AM »
so they had a record handle of $1.3 m , the second time they have had a handle over $1m
good for them , nice regional track with full fields and decent purses and yes they race 5 times per week
great for the local horse people

reminder the big m does $3m nightly ( yes only 2 nights per week)
even now with overnight horses and new drivers

i follow the ohio tracks daily and dayton really does a half ass job for the horse player.
i realize they  could care less but too much time between races really annoying .. the clock
will read o minutes to post and the horses wont even be on the track.. inquiries take forever
slowmo replay from the 3/4 pole is just ridiculous.. who wants to see the whole last qtr at snail
speed.. but very nice horses and you can make some money if patient.. at least i dont have to see
or hear that complete fool the wizard anymore once miami opens back up.. complete
embarrassment to harness racing..... who said wishes dont come true....
you cant lose if you dont bet

The 'Drag' time [that means two things at M[1] lol] is a problem at most every harness track. Some worse than others. It's a much bigger problem than just us old men bitchin. A complete turn off to anyone, but 'ESPECIALLY' younger potential fans [the ones everyone claim this this sport desperately needs] who are used to and want things to happen quick or at least when you say they are supposed to. What business, TV show, relationship, etc. operates like that and are successful? Granted T-Breds have longer [though not by much sometimes] in between races but they go or at least load at or close to that time.

The guaranteed pools [some unrealistic] really make it bad as they loop and loop and loop trying to reach the amount. Most every race though, extra minutes for a couple more hundred dollars [if that in some cases]

thanks for comments
i dont really follow dayton on a regular basis
i guess the point is that if we are depending on some of these regional tracks to help save the day we are in trouble based on your comments

That is not true. The odds are stacked in favor of the casino.
However man does not determine the outcome. The casino has odds in their favor but betting horses is controlled by human beings and we all know what that means. A roulette wheel isn’t controlled by man.  The casino has the odds in their favor but you still are betting on something that human beings don’t control. In my opinion a casino isn’t trying to cheat you because they don’t have to, they have the odds in their favor. But horse racing, oh boy the list of ways that you can be cheated is endless and every one of them are controlled by man.

As a fan I would put Dayton 3rd among the 4 Ohio tracks. The best races are during the Summer so Scioto would be #1.  Miami Valley starts getting better horses in the Spring so their #2.  And Northfield is last. I don't see much difference in draw time between either tracks, there all way too long. If I had a choice of gambling options I would choose harness racing over casino because at least there is some thought process with picking the horses. With many years of experience I think their both are losing money pastimes. As far as younger generation gamblers, sports betting is at the top of their list. Casinos would be a distance second and harness racing are at the bottom with very little interest. Most feel it either abusive or fixed based on my conversations.

A Roulette wheel has almost a 50% win rate if you're playing red/black and odd or even. This can be a good time unless you're trying to make money for your car payment!  ngc3

I think it's less than 50% with the green on the roulette wheel.
