Mohawk Thursday
« on: February 28, 2019, 12:02:14 PM »
I'll try 2 plays:
2nd 1to win. Short price likely though.
7th 4 wp. Boyd barn going well. 3 yr old gelding is coming off layoff and raced in several grassroots last summer. May need a race but the opportunity to get decent price is now not next out. Interesting that Boyd appears to have named  Filion rather than  Hudon as Phil  normally drives for this barn.

Good luck

Yes agree the 1had 20wins in the season none of these have that but how many were at smaller tracks because for all those wins ud think purses won should put over 100k for the year unless was raced for less on b tracks but I still like that one

Where the hell was the 1 race? That many wins and barely many earnings. Screams bet against to me. Going to be underlaid with the barn change too. Good luck though.

Field isn't much in second. Lot of b track trotters. Moreaus horse does have heart. Doesn't like to lose.

The Flamboro race on 1/20 winning for fun in the snow from the 8 post if repeated wins here.

Counting on some improvement going to moreau.4 and 6 will take some $ too.

Will see. Have to take a stand somewhere in p5- if you want to spread a little in other legs.

Everything Cullen barn sends out has to be considered. Wonder when next positive will show up. Imo must be on the horizon

Should have stayed at flamboro. That the odds drifted up to 7-2 was not a good sign in this instance. Oh well. Had Cullen's horse in the the first too in p5. Can't play em all though. ngc3

I don't know how others handicap trotters but I tend to go with class over form. The 1 in that 2nd race field earned a paltry $4k per win. Sure 49 lifetime wins but they had to be against complete rats. The highest earner per win was the 6, who wound up crushing the field. Obviously there will be exceptions to this rule but class tends to rise in trotters. I handicap trot races very similarly to turf runners. Cream usually rises to the top for whatever reasons. Regally bred turf horse tend to be the best ones. Same goes for trotters.

Ppg - thanks for the insight. Always appreciated. Had the other 4 legs of the pick 5 too. Should have singled the Boyd horse in the fourth - that was the other single I was considering. Onto the big m tonight.

The single most significant angle that exists in harness racing handicapping is that flat betting trotters with a break in it's last start plus no other breaks in it's 5 starts prior to the break produces results that beat takeout by 10%.

Interesting - I'm not opposed to taking a chance at times with breakers especially if they show lines within the past few months that are competive. I only use them on top and in horizontals.
