Jeff Gural on the Racehorse Health and Safety Act
« on: September 30, 2023, 08:43:01 PM »
"While I am sure everyone is grateful that I have stepped up and kept The Meadowlands open, unfortunately I am also very honest, and I am not going to tolerate drugs in our sport at my racetracks. This does not includes the trainers I use for my own horses. It cost me personally $2.5 million to put 30 people in prison, but now it’s time for the industry to pick up those costs as I have done my part."

Jeff has done more than anyone else.
The constant talk about saving the Meadowlands & the money he has spent is tiresome.

He personally put 30 people in prison? Does he understand that the net was so broad that at least two of the people included in it did not get jail time because they were actually innocent? and perhaps the most important one who deserves and was sentenced to jail time has still not reported....
It's only libel if it's a lie

The guy is worth hundreds of MILLIONS. Does he mention that his company was the underbidder for a building in NY City at 200 million +? Is he forgetting that he has a breeding farm and owns racehorses that race at the Meadowlands? That he bred the highest price yearling at $450,000  a couple years ago. THAT HE PERSONALLY IS BENEFITTING BY THIS.

Does he mention the sportsbook that is located AT THE MEADOWLANDS that is a cash cow?

It's an old story with him mentioning the money he laid out. Yes, he did step forward and build the new track. But enough. It's an old story.

If he's not happy. Tell him to sell!!!  He'll have no problem getting his personal money back.

Name one person that would take over the Meadowlands and has the money to run it Gural saved racing at our biggest track we should be thankful and yes he has a lot of money and he didn't go bankrupt 5 times like that crook Trump who only helps himself would do nothing for any one else.

I wouldnt tag mr gural as crux of problem confronting industry; imho hes done more than other track owners to try to Ievel playing field. Jeff has made some efforts but cant run a track these days without having some gassers competing. Though im not with Mike in thinking those critical of jeff are criminal.

Who are his personal trainers gassing? The andy miller (julie) barn doesnt seem to me very live at big m these days. That barn better away from big m. Last i saw that barn didnt have winning % at big m that id characterize as remarkably extraordinary.

Id stand by my  opinion that the whole standard bred drugging scandal was stumbled upon though actors in it pretty audacious in behavior. I dont see big second wave coming.  While its better to have federal oversight than state i still expect it to only result in superficial improvements. Ill have to be convinced that fbi wants anything at all to do with investigating racing unless forced to confront with the awful audacious abuse we saw in the doping scandal.

Itll be interesting to see what happens to mongello - though frankly that barn at big m is  an autotoss. If hes juicing it aint with the same stuff that some of the down under trainers have.

In my humble opinion, the only way you are going to slow down drugs, is when they also suspend the horse too.
In cases where the trainer is caught with needles and vials in their barn or truck, I’m curious how you would handle that.

As long as the commissions continue to give second, third, fourth chances, drugging will never be curtailed. Trust me, they have to either start ripping up licenses or make the fines so severe for owners and trainers that the owners start gravitating away from the juicers, ultimately putting the gas trainers out out of business.

tmbz1 Not serious in enforcement now. Its just a pr stunt for public optics. I view all these oversight agencies as enablers. Hochul in NY should be ashamed at nystrwb.
